Southerness Lighthouse, Beach and Barrel Jellyfish

A walk along Southerness beach on a sunny day with a dramatic sky lent itself to plenty of HDR images. I also discovered a few Barrel Jellyfish washed up.

Red Haven (Reid Ha'en) near Auchencairn

Taking advantage of the sunshine I parked in Auchencairn took a walk past the first bird hide to a small bay called Red Haven (or Reid Ha'en), so named because of the lovely colour of the sand on the beach.

The bay also has great views of Heston Island.

Walking back from the bay there is a nice vista of the hills beyond and the sky had some interesting clouds too - which is a bonus.

Both these images use HDR techniques.

Looking back from Red Haven across a very green field and some stunning clouds.

Old Buittle Church

Visited Old Buittle Church for the first time and managed to get these atmospheric HDR shots of the West gable with the sun on it and stormy clouds in the background. More information about the old kirk can be found here: https://canmore.org.uk/site/64872/buittle-old-parish-church.

Powillimount Rock Formation HDRs and Fossils

Powillimount beach is a geologist's paradise because it has a lot of interesting rock formations and there are massive slabs of rock just lying on the beach packed with fossils, all on my doorstep practically.

Fossil packed rock!
Rock Formations

Some sort of ancient shells?

Another interesting fossil

Quite long large fossils

These look like fairy bones to me! 20p for scale!

Rock formations and 'cave'

More interesting geological features.

Red Squirrel on my Window Sill

Just had to share this one. I recently put a window feeder on my kitchen window (so I could watch the birds while I do the washing up!), and the red squirrels in my garden have started using it. I am now carefully creeping up on them while they feed so I can get some pictures. Here's one of the better one's I took:

BBC Use My Photo of Mull of Galloway Lighthouse for Story Promoting Dumfries and Galloway!

Today, the BBC had a story entitled Dumfries and Galloway: Selling Scotland's 'overlooked corner' talking about Dumfrie's and Galloway's new tourism strategy.
The best part was that they decided to use my photo of the Mull of Galloway Lighthouse to illustrate the story:

Good to see another one of my pictures used on the BBC South Scotland News page. This time it's of Clatteringshaws Loch taken from the slopes of Benniguinea hill:

I've been Shortlisted for the Just Cause 3 Trailer Competition!

I am both surprised and flattered to have been shortlisted in the top 21 of the Just Cause 3 Trailer competition (https://mytrailer.justcause.com/).

The competition involved creating a trailer for the new video game using whatever resources you wanted, but they provided you with some gameplay footage and a licensed music track. You could use as much or as little of the video and music provided to compete in 3 categories: Best Use of Audio, Best Action and Best Humour. As a music composer, I went for writing my own score to a video I put together from the supplied gameplay footage, aiming for the Best Use of Audio category.

With thousands of international entries I am chuffed to have been selected and it's great to get this recognition for my music.

It is a shame however, that certain individuals who failed to make the shortlist felt the need to publically write hateful vindictive comments under my video entry on YouTube. It saddens me that there are people out there who enjoy upsetting people like me (I was not the only one targetted) who have put a lot of work into their entries. As a result I was forced to disable comments on my video. If you do like my video, please feel free to click the 'thumbs up' underneath it to show your support. Thanks.

Here is my entry:
